The Parliamentary Secretary for Defence Support, Dr Mike Kelly AM MP, announced today that the independent Defence Honours and Awards Tribunal will inquire into unresolved recognition issues for the Battle of Long Tan.
“I am pleased that the Defence Honours and Awards Tribunal will inquire into unresolved recognition for the Battle of Long Tan. This inquiry will complete an undertaking the Government made in August 2008 when announcing the outcomes of the earlier independent review of the Battle of Long Tan recognition,” said Dr Kelly.
A call for submissions was released in the national press on Saturday, 14 February 2009. Submissions to the inquiry close on Monday, 23 March 2009.
Many people have written to me concerning unresolved recognition issues for the Battle of Long Tan and I would encourage them to now take advantage of this opportunity to make a submission,” Dr Kelly said.
