Warrant Officer Kevin Woods joined the Army in 1974. After completing his initial training he was posted to the 10th Independent Rifle Company at the Jungle Training Centre, Canungra. He then served as a rifleman, section commander and sniper section commander in the Sniper Platoon.
Warrant Officer Woods was promoted to Sergeant in 1981 and posted to the 2nd Training Group as an instructor. In 1986 he was promoted to Warrant Officer Class 2 and became an instructor at the Land Warfare Centre Detachment, Singleton.
He was then promoted to Warrant Officer Class 1 in 1990 and posted to the Royal Military College, Duntroon where he served as the Wing Sergeant Major, Field Training Wing. In 1992 he was posted to the School of Infantry as an instructor and then appointed Regimental Sergeant Major of the School of Infantry.
Warrant Officer Woods then joined the 49th Battalion, the Royal Queensland Regiment as Regimental Sergeant Major. After serving two years he was posted to the Land Warfare Centre as an instructor. In 1998 he took up the position of Regimental Sergeant Major of the 3rd Brigade, and was involved in the Brigade deployment to East Timor.
In 2000 Warrant Officer Woods became the Regimental Sergeant Major Training Command Army. In 2003 he was appointed Academy Sergeant Major at the Australian Defence Force Academy and, later that year, Regimental Sergeant Major Army.
Warrant Officer Woods retired from the Regular Army in February 2008, and he is now a Visiting Fellow at the Australian Defence College. He is married to Denice and they have two children.
